What is TweetTrak?

Remember when tracking worked on twitter? Since June, track has been disabled and it doesn't show any signs of being back anytime soon. So, in a weekend... TweetTrak was born, and it works nearly as well as the original track.

Was is this "track" you speak of?

Tracking allows you to watch all public tweets in the world for specific terms. Whenever anyone sends a tweet with something you're tracking, it forwards the tweet to you.

Why would I want to track something?

    • Messages directed to you.

Track your username and you'll get messages sent to you when people you aren't following send a message to you! Or, people you are are following but don't want to have device updates on for.

    • Group Communication

Conventions, groups of friends or any other ad hoc group can agree on a word or a hashtag (a '#' followed by a tag) and use it in their tweets. Track that term and you'll know whats going on!

    • Follow your interests

You can track using complex search queries from Twitter Search so you can follow things like 'android device' or '"wildfire" near:"san diego"'. Then, as soon as someone breaks some news, you'll be among the first to know!

    How do I use it?

    1. Follow TweetTrak
    2. Log in to twitter and click follow on TweetTrak's page, or send a message 'follow tweettrak' to twitter.

    3. Direct Message your tracks
    4. Send a direct message 'track <term>' to TweetTrak. For example, my username on Twitter is RyanK and by sending 'd tweettrak track @RyanK' to twitter, I will see any tweet were people are talking to me.

    5. Enjoy tracking and spread the word!
    6. That's it! Its really that easy! Why not send a tweet so that your followers can hear about it as well. Or maybe even a blog post! Ideas, comments, or problems? What's coming?

    • Ignoring Users
    • Currently, you'll get double notifications from people you're following with device updates on. You'll get their tweet from twitter, plus a direct message from TweetTrak. Unfortunately, twitter doesn't expose if you have device updates on via API, so you'll need to manually turn off updates from people you don't want updates from.

    • Web administration
    • Soon, you'll be able to manage you're settings directly on TweetTrak.com! Everything from signing up to seeing what you're tracking and see what people are tracking.
